Biography
Dr. Jenny (Yoon Jung) Kwon joins the Fox School of Business on a tenure-track appointment as an Assistant Professor of Management. Prior to joining Temple University, she was an Entrepreneurship & Strategy (ENS) Postdoctoral Fellow at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.
Kwon’s research lies at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She is particularly interested in how established firms access, evaluate, and leverage external sources of knowledge and technology. Her research examines corporate venture capital (CVC) and the market for technology (MFT), including how firms invest in entrepreneurial ventures and acquire external technologies through licensing and patent transactions. Her work spans technology-intensive industries including semiconductors, biopharmaceuticals and medical devices, and energy.
Her current projects examine how corporate venture capital relationships shape entrepreneurial innovation, how established firms use investments in startups to learn about emerging technologies, and how characteristics of technologies and intellectual property influence technology transactions. More broadly, her research seeks to understand how firms make strategic decisions under technological uncertainty and how relationships between incumbent firms and entrepreneurial ventures affect innovation outcomes.
At the Fox School, Kwon teaches the Strategic Management capstone course. Her teaching emphasizes applying strategic concepts and frameworks to real-world business problems through case analysis and discussion. She has previously taught strategy at the University of Utah and Rice University.
Kwon earned her PhD and MA in Strategic Management from Rice University and her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Korea University Business School.
