June is Pride Month, which honors the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City. This series of spontaneous protests against the discrimination of the LBGTQIA+ community is often recognized as a watershed moment in the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights in the U.S. 

There are a number of events happening around Philadelphia where you can celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community. 

June 11: Disability Pride Philadelphia

This week-long event series honors the 10th Annual Celebration of Disability Pride Philadelphia. On Saturday, June 11, Disability Pride will with a parade from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring disabled performers. Starting at the water fountain on Logan Square on the Ben Franklin Parkway, the celebration will include activities for all ages, food trucks and more. 

June 11: Philly Pride Run

Back for its sixth year, Philly Pride Run is sponsored by Lez Run Running Club and Out Philadelphia Athletic League, continuing the tradition of celebrating Pride Month with a festive run through the city. All runners and local running groups are invited to take part. All proceeds from this event will go directly toward William Way LGBT Community Center to sustain their efforts to engage and support the diverse LGBTQIA+ communities in the greater Philadelphia area. The race starts at 8 a.m. at the Please Touch Museum 5K course.

June 18: Juneteenth Family Pride Picnic

Hosted by the nonprofit Philadelphia Family Pride, all are welcome to this Juneteenth Family Pride Picnic, centered around LGBTQIA+ Black families, history, vendors and artists. The picnic will take place on Saturday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lovett Park, and there will be free food, entertainment, resource tables, vendors and more for all to enjoy. 

June 18: Pride Month Maker’s Market 

Support queer artists and businesses this month by shopping at the Hyatt Centric Center City Philadelphia’s first-ever Pride Month Maker’s Market. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 in the Alexander Ballroom, this craft market will boast the work of artist Tiff Urquhart and many other local LGBTQIA+ artists and businesses, including TwoCryptids, Hearth Remedies, Queer Candle Co, Bleed Your Heart Out Glass, Toxic Femme, Allegra Pronesti, Kenni Field and Elias Gurrola. 

June 25: Family Pride Day at the Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute invites everyone for an afternoon of science and performance programming that highlights some of the organizations’ contributions to uplift the LGBTQIA+ community. Included with general admission, attendees can expect to experience drag shows curated by award-winning performer The Eric Jaffe (they/she) and workshops from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 25.
