Postdoctoral Position in Decision Neuroscience

The Center for Applied Research in Decision Making (CARD) at the Fox School of Business in Temple University is looking for a post-doctoral scholar. The position is for two years initially (subject to satisfactory performance) and renewable for a third year subject to availability of funds and performance.

The interdisciplinary Center (formerly known as the Center for Neural Decision Making) has been at the forefront of scientific research in the field of Decision Neuroscience, facilitating dialogue among academic researchers, practitioners, business clients and the broader society to translate fundamental neuroscience insights into practical business solutions. At CARD, we use tools like eye tracking, facial coding, skin conductance, heart rate, electroencephalography (EEG), facial electromyography (EMG), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure psychological processes and unconscious and responses to variety of different stimuli and address real-world business problems in marketing, advertising, and financial decision making.

We are looking for scholars with experience in neurophysiological measures, a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, Marketing or a related field, strong technical skills and enthusiasm for leveraging neuroscience research to address practical problems and issues. We are specifically looking for candidates who can carry out advanced fMRI analyses, including but not restricted to multivariate pattern analysis, representational similarity analyses, repetition suppression and adaptation, and connectivity. Even if the candidate does not have these skills, they must be willing and able to pick them up independently. The postdoc will have access to all these methodologies at CARD, as well as a world-class Siemens 3T scanner and 32-channel Bio Semi EEG system at TUBRIC (Temple University Brain Research and Imaging Center).

The position is ideal for someone looking to switch from a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience to a career in Marketing and/or Business school. The candidate will have the opportunity to shape research in an exciting new area with impact on both academia and industry. In addition to the neurophysiological methods, the candidate will have access to the behavioral subject pool and lab facilities for collecting large-scale behavioral data through the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, as well as neuroimaging resources at TUBRIC. The Fox School of Business is the largest school within Temple University with a very large and diverse undergraduate student population, making it an ideal location for behavioral data collection.

In addition to pursuing their own research and seeking to publish in top journals in Marketing and Neuroscience, the postdoc will work closely with the other members of CARD on various projects, providing guidance and assistance and contributing to the intellectual capabilities of the center. The postdoc candidate will also be responsible for seeking external funding for translational research, working closely with the Director of the Center on grant proposals. Though teaching is not essential, candidates may seek opportunities to teach undergraduate courses in their second year based on discussions with the department chair at Marketing.

Interested applicants should send an email to the Director of CARD, Vinod Venkatraman () with the subject line “POSTDOC APPLICATION” and include a CV, brief research statement, names and contact information for 2-3 references, and a cover letter that describes how your past research experience might be relevant for this particular position at CARD, broadly construed (maximum 1 page). Review of applications will begin on September 1 and will continue until the position is filled.
