This minor, a joint program offered by the Department of Management and Information Systems and the Department of Statistical Science, will teach students to unlock the value in corporate data to create new business opportunities and enhance their knowledge and marketability. The coursework exposes students to hands-on, cutting edge tools, and techniques in predictive modeling, forecasting, association mining, cluster analysis, decision trees, unstructured “Big Data,” sentiment analysis, and experimental design. The minor is appropriate for all business majors who want to be at the forefront of using data effectively in their discipline.
This minor, offered to business and non-business majors, provides students with the ability to select, utilize, and apply quantitative skills and data analysis skills to their major field of study. Coursework for the degree exposes students to statistical computation, theory of mathematical statistics, and many common techniques of statistical analysis. Some of the courses may be offered online.
The goal of this program is to educate students in the theory and methods of statistics toward successful applications of these tools to immediate and specific problems in social and scientific contexts. Students graduate with substantial competence in the theory of statistics, and a sound knowledge of statistical methodology and statistical computing.

The Fox School offers a four-course, 12-credit graduate certificate option for professionals interested in expanding their knowledge without committing to the pursuit of a master’s degree. Students who successfully complete this graduate certificate may matriculate into the Business Analytics master’s program at a later date with credit for their certificate coursework. While some graduates of the program have accepted positions within the industry at corporations like Boeing, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, and Pfizer, many of our graduates hold faculty roles at leading academic research institutions, including Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Houston, University of Southern California, and Villanova University.
All students admitted to this program are considered for full financial support for up to five years. Funding typically comes in the form of research or teaching assistantship and includes full tuition and a competitive stipend. In order to receive assistantship renewal each year, PhD students must demonstrate their commitment to professional growth through dedication to assigned assistant duties, as well as excellent academic performance. Assistantships will only be renewed if there is sufficient progress in the program and if the student’s performance warrants renewal based on the student’s annual evaluation. Students who apply before the January 15 deadline will also be considered for Temple University’s prestigious university fellowships.
