Biography

Omar is an experienced leader with 15 years working in venture philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, nonprofit governance, and state, federal and foreign government relations. He is executive director of GreenLight Fund Philadelphia, a nonprofit venture capital firm investing to improve economic mobility. Omar was a principal at Venture Philanthropy Partners (VPP), a philanthropic investment firm where he co-managed a $20M portfolio to achieve social impact across education, youth development and health. Prior, he was a management consultant and associate director of business development at the Advisory Board Company. For two years, he was a federally-registered lobbyist for the Whitaker Group, a premier consulting firm focused on increasing US-African trade & investment. He started his career on Capitol Hill as an urban policy aide to a congressman. He is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a board member of the Philanthropy Network of Greater Philadelphia, Global Philadelphia Association, Maternity Care Coalition, and Girard College Foundation. Omar received an MPA in nonprofit management, and a BA in international affairs (economics, Arabic) from George Washington University. He holds executive education certificates in nonprofit governance and social impact from Harvard Business School and the University of Pennsylvania.
