Biography

Michael L. Schirmer, DBA, is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Marketing and Supply Chain Management Department at Temple University’s Fox School of Business. He teaches the undergraduate business strategy course, Integrative Business Applications, delivering it in the classroom and online, and in both standard and Honors formats. He serves as Faculty Adviser to the Fox Online Student Association and has supported the Be Your Own Boss Bowl for several years as a proposal reviewer. Dr. Schirmer has over 30 years of business and industry experience in roles of progressive responsibility spanning a wide range of operating environments including engineering, high-tech manufacturing, entrepreneurship, workforce development, supplier diversity, and higher education. In 2008, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recognized his work promoting the utilization of minority-owned and women-owned businesses in FAA-funded contracting with its Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Advocate Award. Prior to joining the Fox faculty in 2016 with a concurrent administrative appointment as Deputy Academic Director of Online Programs, he served for over four years as Chair of the Business Division at Peirce College. Dr. Schirmer holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University (formerly known as the General Motors Institute), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and an earned Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Wilmington University where his research focused on capacity-building issues facing minority-owned businesses in publicly funded contracting. More recently, he has collaborated with his Fox colleagues in research of online business education programs culminating in several articles published in the Online Learning Journal, the Journal of Education for Business, and the Journal of Educational and Developmental Psychology.
