Mauritius: An African Island Hub of Innovation & Entrepreneurship

A program for faculty, business professionals, and entrepreneurs from the United States and Mauritius. The program will run from January 9 – 13 2017.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
1. Identify and train potential entrepreneurs in the region.
2. Develop necessary entrepreneurship-related knowledge and skills among
participants and integrate new concepts into courses and curricula.
3. Impart basic managerial knowledge and understanding.
4. Develop and strengthen entrepreneurial quality and motivation.
5. Identify elements of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
6. Identify policy interventions that will enable the ‘start-up’ ecosystem to flourish.
7. Enlarge the supply of entrepreneurs for rapid industrial development.
8. Help develop high-growth and technology-based entrepreneurship.

Topics will include:

  1. Mauritius as a hub for African entrepreneurship
  2. Capacity building for local entrepreneurs Opportunities for U.S.-Mauritius trade
  3. Infusing international entrepreneurship into the IB curriculum
  4. Building U.S.-Mauritian linkages for entrepreneurship

  • What are your legal responsibilities for the accuracy of the Electronic Export Information (EEI) even if you use a freight forwarder?
  • How do export regulations affect your business?
  • What is the Automated Export System (AES) and how do you report your export information?
  • Do you know how to comply with the Bureau of Industry and Security’s (BIS) Export Administration Regulations?
  • What are the red flags you should watch out for?
  • Does your product require a license?

The Census Bureau, Bureau of Industry and Security, and port officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offer an engaging full day of learning. As of April 5, 2014, new export requirements were implemented that amend the regulations published in 2008. Census Bureau experts will cover these new regulations and filing requirements of the FTR, how to classify your commodities by providing an understanding of the Schedule B classification requirements, as well as provide a thorough overview of the AES. CBP experts will cover port requirements and efforts against terrorism and international narcotics trafficking. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) officers will highlight export control requirements and how to identify red-flags.

Qualifies for 7 CES credits

All those involved in the export process: U.S. Principal Parties in Interest including Manufacturers and Suppliers, Export Compliance Managers, Freight Forwarders, Exporting Carriers, Consolidators, U.S. Customs Brokers, and Compliance Software Providers.
