The Center’s highlights of the 2011-2012 academic year include:

  • Conducted Classroom Evaluations that provided confidential peer and/or student classroom feedback, performed at the request of Fox and SHTM faculty and Ph.D. candidates.
  • Hosted Apple Inc. regional representatives who unveiled iBooks and other educational usage for the iPad.
  • Hosted a faculty workshop Graphic Syllabus and The Outcomes Map with author Dr. Linda Nilson from the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation (OTEI) at Clemson University.
  • Redesigned the CITL website www.sbm.temple.edu/citl by creating a new and appealing interface, adding interactivity, and content and links developed through events and workshops.
  • Appointed five Dean’s Teaching Fellows for the 2011-2012 and 2012-13 academic years: Dr. Craig Atwater, Mary Conran, Dr. Barbara Blundi Manaka, Kate Nelson, and Dr. Christian Wurst.
  • Expanded the Thank You Professor initiative to include MBA/MS students.  Generated over 1,500 student-to-faculty thank you notes.
  • Maintained the Thank You Student website where faculty issue notes to thank students for their work in and out of the classroom.
  • Hosted two CITL Teaching Roundtable meetings featuring faculty from the Fox School who have demonstrated teaching excellence in the classroom, current Fox students, and employer representatives. Teaching strategies were discussed and upcoming CITL workshop topics were identified.
  • Hosted the CITL’s annual Innovation Awards ceremony on May 2nd honoring members of the Fox School Community that infuse technology into the classroom and throughout the curriculum.  Event featured the fourth annual John DeAngelo Excellence in Teaching and Innovation and seven Blue Mouse Awardees. Recipients of Blue Mouse technology awards were expanded to include administrative personnel and departmental staff at Fox.
  • Hosted over 25 addition faculty and staff workshops on topics related to teaching and learning, such as:
  1. Online Courses: Design and Implementation
  2. Mental Mapping: Teaching Students Integrity in Action
  3. Twitter for Faculty: How to Establish you Personal Brand and Leverage twitter in the Classroom
  4. Social Education and the FOX Community Site
  5. WebEx Usage in Higher Education: Student Group work and Online Office Hours.
  6. Microsoft Excel for staff
  • Launched a series of student workshops with topics such as How to Succeed in an Online Course and Using Microsoft Excel and Using WebEx.
  • Hosted half-day events on special topics, including:
    • How to Teach Using the Case Study Method: Presentations and Panel Discussion.  Topics included: why to use the case method; what encompasses a case study; small ripped-from-the-headlines cases, comprehensive Harvard and Ivey case studies and Fox Faculty-authored case studies.
    • iPads in Classroom: How to use tablet technology to close the generational gap, incorporate video and social media, developing professional development skills, increased peer and instructor feedback, increase student responsibility and accountability for enhancing their own learning outcomes.
    • Increased the profile of the Center by developing and distributing professional CITL brochures.
    • Continued collaboration with the University Teaching and Learning Center to leverage resources for faculty.
    • Updated Peer Review Materials

In 2011-2012, the CITL addressed the following specific discussion topics and has targeted these areas for development during the upcoming academic year:

  • Continue to increase CITL student engagement by offering student-centric workshops.
  • Establish a CITL workshop programming committee to help generate workshop ideas and content.
  • Engage Best Practices Faculty from both Fox and the University Teaching Award winners and Dean’s Teaching Fellows to lead 2012-2013 faculty workshops.
  • Continue to recruit nationally recognized authors and speakers to present at future CITL workshops.
  • Continue collaboration with the University Teaching and Learning Center to leverage resources for faculty.
