AMA partners with the 5th Annual Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive: College Edition

November 8, 2011 //

On Friday, Nov. 11, Temple University’s chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) will be participating in the 5th Annual Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive, presented by Burlington Coat Factory, One Warm Coat and ABC’s Good Morning America.

Now through Jan. 16, 2012, Burlington Coat Factory locations nationwide are collecting coats and donating them to those locally in need through One Warm Coat-affiliated agencies. Then, later this month, ABC’s Good Morning America will launch the coat drive on air, reminding its millions of viewers about the ongoing need for coats all across the country, and demonstrating how every day people can help.

Since the program’s inception, this joint effort has resulted in the distribution of 792,090 warm coats in working with more than 250 One Warm Coat-affiliated local organizations around the country that keep the coats within the store’s community in which they were donated. This year, the coat drive plans to celebrate a major campaign milestone – the collection of its one-millionth coat.

This is the first year of the coat drive’s College Edition, dedicated to encouraging college students across America to give back locally in their communities, simply with the donation of a coat. The AMA Chapter at Temple’s Fox School of Business will host the coat drive event on Friday Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Alter Hall lobby.

Led by Burlington Coat Factory summer college interns, including AMA’s Sara Meenan, director of community service, nine campuses will feature coat collection events and bins for donations from Nov. 2 through Nov. 12. The university with the most coats collected during this time period will receive recognition on an upcoming ABC Good Morning America broadcast.

When someone donates a coat at Temple on Nov. 11th, he or she will receive 10 percent off an entire purchase at any Burlington location, a raffle ticket for a basket prize and a thank you for helping Temple compete in this national competition. Additionally, participants are encouraged to take pictures at the coat collection box and tweet it with #WarmCoats. The photos could appear on an upcoming ABC Good Morning America broadcast throughout the campaign.

AMA has received support from 24 student professional organizations within the Fox School and other student organizations campus-wide, all of which are encouraging their members to make donations.

“Giving back to the community around us is always at the top of AMA’s list,” said Kylie Miller, AMA’s director of public relations.

Those unable to attend the coat drive can drop off donations at the AMA office, Room 502C of Alter Hall, between Nov. 2 and Nov. 10 or by visiting their local Burlington. To find a local store, visit BurlingtonCoatFactory.com.
