Dr. Ronald C. Anderson joins the Fox School from American University’s Kogod School of Business, where he served as the Cohn Endowed Research Professor in Finance. He has authored 15 top-tier articles. His research examines various aspects of family-controlled firms and corporate governance. His articles have appeared in various top-tier journals, including the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Banking and Finance, and the Journal of Economics and Business, among others. He has also authored five books.
A 2003 article, “Founding-Family Ownership and Firm Performance: Evidence from the S&P 500,” co-authored with Dr. David Reeb, was the mostly highly cited paper in the Journal of Finance for that year. Dr. Anderson’s 2004 article with Dr. Reeb, “Board Composition: Balancing Family Influence in S&P 500 Firms,” was the most highly cited paper in the Administrative Science Quarterly that year. Various international media outlets, including The New York Times and Financial Times, also featured the articles.
His many research, teaching and service honors include three Faculty Awards for Outstanding Teaching, most recently in 2011, and three Outstanding Graduate Teacher of the Year Awards. He was an Endowed Faculty Fellow from 1999-2003, and received the Gary D. Cohn Endowed Research Professorship in 2008.
Dr. Anderson’s corporate experience includes high-level domestic and international positions with Schlumberger Limited from 1981-92.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering and MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and his PhD in Finance from Texas A&M University, which honored him in 2011 with its Outstanding Doctoral Alumni Award.
