Don Hopkins (Ph.D., 1983, Penn State) is an Associate Professor and former Chair of the Department of General and Strategic Management. He earned his Ph.D. in Strategic Management and his MBA in Marketing from the University of Connecticut. Before coming to Temple he was on the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to his academic career he was a manager for the Ford Motor Company in Buffalo, NY. He has published articles in Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, Human Relations, Journal of Management Studies, Business Horizons, Global Focus, and the Journal of International Management among others. He has published numerous business case studies appearing in both journals and textbooks. He won the award for writing the “Best Selling Case Study” from the North American Casewriting Association. He attended the program to “globalize” business faculty at the University of South Carolina. He has taught courses in business policies, strategic management, international business, mergers and acquisitions, organizational behavior, and industry analysis at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. He has taught in the MBA program in Japan. His most recent publications and presentations have been in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, competitive dynamics, deregulation, and industrial organization economics.
