Info Session for the BYOBB on Tuesday, January 27th

-
Info sessions for the 2009-2009 Be Your Own Boss Bowl are scheduled for Tuesday, January 27th from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at our new Innovation Lab located at A503d Alter Hall. This will be your final opportunity to apply for a Senior-executive mentor. Students, faculty, alumni and staff are encouraged to attend to learn about the competition, including new support programs, and to meet and learn from previous grand prize winners. A business librarian from the Paley Library will give a brief demo of how to use the online business databases to reach industries, markets and competition. No RSVP is required and refreshments will be served.
Each individual or team declaring their intent to compete will receive Frank Fiore's book "How to Write a Business Plan in No Time" and will have the ability to request a Senior-executive mentor for the duration of the Bowl. Although at this point we cannot guarantee a mentor, we will do everything within our power to accommodate your request. This year's grand prize winner will receive over $35,000 in cash and prizes! First and second place will also be awarded in two categories.
Some important things to know about the competition include:
- The Be Your Own Boss Bowl is a business plan competition open to all students, faculty, alumni and staff of all 17 schools and colleges within Temple University.
- The BYOBB is not just for business students. In fact, in the last five years, four of the grand prize winners were not affiliated with the Fox School of Busienss.
- All plans are kept confidential.
- Students are encouraged to work in teams although individuals can also compete. If competing as a team, the business founder or CEO must have a Temple University affiliation. Non-Temple individuals may compete in the teams.
- There are two tracks: Undergraduate and Graduate Student/Faculty/Alumni/Staff. If even one member of a team has graduated from a college or university, then the entire team must compete in the other track. (i.e. To compete in the Undergraduate track, all team members must be undergraduates.)
- Plans for for-profit, non-profit and social entrepreneurship businesses may be entered.
- PLANS ARE DUE MARCH 30 BY 5 P.M. AND NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE PERMITTED. Finalists presentations and awards ceremony will be held April 22.
While attendance at the info sessions is not mandatory in order to compete in the BYOBB, we highly encourage all to attend. If you are unable to attend and would like to register for the competition, you must contact David Periquito, Associate Director of the IEI, via email at iei@temple.edu.
