Fox Computer Literacy Test

Introduction

The Fox School Computer Literacy Test (FCLT) is designed to assess your knowledge of basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office 2007 and Windows XP. If you regularly use the internet or software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint you should do just fine. These are skills that students ideally should possess before they enter the Fox School core.

The Fox School’s Technology Committee has specified computer literacy skills for incoming freshman and transfer students. The topics below are what you will be tested on. If after reviewing them you feel you need some additional practice we recommend reading over a basic computer book or MS Office Tutorials.  If you pass the FCLT, you will have satisfied the FSBM computer requirement.

Please follow the category that best describes your student status:

Freshman:
If you are a new student entering the Fox School in the fall 2008 semester or after, you are required to take the FCLT test during your first semester at Temple.  Passing the test will satisfy the Fox School’s computer literacy requirement and you will be permitted to register for FSBM core classes.

Transfer:
If you are a transfer student entering the Fox School prior to Fall 2010 and fall into the category of core-to-core or 45+ transfer credit hours and have not yet satisfied the FSBM computer requirement, you are strongly encouraged to take the FCLT.  To be certain, all transfer students should first verify this information with their FSBM Undergraduate Advisor.

If you pass the FCLT, you will have satisfied the FSBM computer requirement and will be waived from taking CIS 1055, formerly (CIS 55). However, you still may need to take a ‘Science B’ required course if you are not a core to core or 45+ transfer core student; you should check the UG bulletin, your DARS,  or with your FSBM advisor.

If you pass the FCLT you will not be permitted to take the CIS 1055 or 1095 course. The University does not allow students who pass higher level Math or Language to go back and take lower level courses. (The same occurs if a student places higher due to exams/placements test).

About the Application:
Myitlab is an online assessment and training software product that is being used to assess your computer application skill level.  You will use myitlab to test your computer proficiency by allowing you to demonstrate your skills in Microsoft Office 2007 applications including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, as well as Windows XP.  The test is interactive and you will be asked to complete task-oriented, true/false and multiple choice questions, you have 50 minutes to complete the FCLT.

Once you begin a FCLT, you can complete the tasks in any order, skip tasks, revisit tasks, and re-attempt tasks that you have attempts remaining for.  For security reasons, once you start the test, you must continue as you will be scored on your performance.  You cannot back out, pause, or start over for any reason.

How to register to take the FCLT:
To confirm a spot for the FCLT, please register using the Fox School’s registration system.  Testing sessions will be held throughout the semester and at various times. The date and times for the testing sessions can be viewed once you log into the Fox School's Registration System

Prior to the test you will need to purchase a myitlab COMPUTER LITERACY TEST ACCESS CODE which can be obtained from the Temple University Bookstore (13th & Montgomery) or Zavelle’s Bookstore (1520 N Broad Street).
