Dr. Barbara Manaka
Assistant Professor (Teaching/Instructional Track)
Risk, Insurance, and Healthcare Management

Dr. Manaka received her PhD in Economics from Temple University in February 2001 and has been faculty at the Fox School since August 2001. She is also a registered nurse with over 30 years of clinical and business experience in the healthcare sector.
Dr. Manaka spent most of her nursing career in Critical Care Units. She worked in Surgical Trauma, the Coronary, Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Units, was a member of hospital disaster teams and cardiac arrest teams and taught as a clinical preceptor. Dr. Manaka has also worked as a sales team manager in a medical marketing firm (pharmaceuticals) where she received awards for her sales, communication and leadership skills.
Dr. Manaka is the Associate Director of the MBA Program in Healthcare Management and Associate Director of the Center for Healthcare Research and Management. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in risk management and healthcare risk management. She received the Deanâs Service Award in 2003 and the Executive Directorâs Award for Excellence in recognition for outstanding group leadership in 2004.
Dr. Manaka currently serves on the Board of Editors at the ECRI Institute. She is a consultant for both Greencastle Consulting and Emergency Visions. She also serves on the Clinical Advisory Board for Greencastle Consulting and as a member of the Emergency Preparedness Committee for the Temple University Health System.
