What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox School of Business provided many resources to differentiate myself into a unique student. Student organizations such as Beta Alpha Psi and The Owl Fund allowed me to efficiently build a network of friends with most promising Fox students. These organizations provided recourses for independent learning that allow students to separate themselves from their peers. Faculty advisors, Marco Malandra (BAP) and Dr. Scott (Owl Fund), at the Fox School push their organizations to enrich the membership and attract employers.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD provided prompt and honest feedback whenever asked. I received helpful resume critics that fine-tuned my resume. CSPD also provides a warm and welcoming environment that puts everyone in a good mood. Employers have a great first impression of Fox.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Communication and Resume. Take the first few weeks of a semester before junior year to complete your resume. Spending 20-40 hours on learning about and creating a resume and you will be able to confidently edit it throughout your academic career. Accept all opportunities to improve public speaking skills. Develop social skills to carry on a conversation, at a minimum, with anyone in your industry and the Temple Alumni.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
My experience at the Fox School helped me to realize my goals and guide me in my job search. The classes, and many resources at Fox, such as the SPO’s and the CSPD, not only impressed me, but also gave me the tools I needed to prepare for entering the corporate world. Through various networking events, and the help of CSPD’s website, I was able to secure an internship with Citi the summer of my junior year. Throughout the summer I was able to learn and enhance many of the skills I had learned at Fox. All of these great experiences led me to a full-time job with Citi for after graduation.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The numerous workshops offered by CSPD taught me how to act more maturely and professional not only in my academic life, by my personal life as well. The many career fairs and networking events helped me to make contacts with individuals in many different fields. These contacts helped me to learn about different industries and gave me confidence that I would be able to succeed after graduation.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
I would tell future students to get involved in as many things as possible. The more events, workshops, and meetings you attend, the more confident you will feel when applying and interviewing for jobs. Be open to different and new opportunities and you will be able to succeed.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox School of Business helped me develop personally and professionally; it has given me more opportunities than I could have ever imagined. It provided me with the chance to join the student organization, the American Marketing Association, and lead others on their exploration of the Marketing major and professional opportunities, including my own. Through the Fox School I have built relationships with my peers, professors and administration who have all guided me and helped me become the confident person I am today. My understanding of Marketing and its theories can all be credited to the outstanding curriculum and teachers. I plan on taking all that I have learned throughout my four years here and applying it to the future adventures in my career.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The resources that CSPD provides helped me find my first full time job. Enterprise has close relations with the Fox School of Business, and through the Senior Reception I was able to meet recruiters and obtain an interview. The career advisors were there for me to answer questions and guide me on the right career path. I am very thankful for their help!

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My advice to future students on their job search is to network with as many people as you can. Join a Student Professional Organization and obtain a leadership role within it. By doing so, you learn so much about business operations and managing others. Lastly, get as many internships as possible. It is the best way to receive professional experience and meet industry professionals.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
Throughout my job search, the Fox School of Business was a great influence in my personal development, and helped me land my dream job. I worked on building my resume by gaining work and internship experience, as well as getting involved on campus. I participated in Student Professional Organizations, which helped me network with employers and polish my professional skills. SPOs really helped me learn from and grow with my peers. Most importantly, my Fox School curriculum and marketing classes helped me improve my skill set, so I would be more attractive to employers.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The CSPD office was the main resource that I used during my job search. Beginning with resume critiques, workshops, and advice from people in the CSPD office, I first made sure I was prepared to present myself to employers. I then utilized CSPD's many networking opportunities, such as job fairs and employee networking programs on campus. The last step of my process with CSPD was applying for jobs on FoxNet and going to interviews. I came to many first-round interviews in the CSPD office, and began to be recognized regularly by people in the office because I was there so much! Because I utilized CSPD and the Fox School, I received four job offers by January. I would not have been so successful without the guidance I received and the resources that were available to me.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
For future students who are beginning their job search process, I recommend that you identify your goals early on in your college career. What type of job are you ultimately looking for after graduation? What do you have to do to get there? Getting a full-time job offer will not be a walk in the park. It is essential to start early (sophomore or junior year) with building resume experience. Having at LEAST one internship is necessary for standing out against the thousands of other students who are also looking for a job. However, internships alone are not enough. Students should also work on their professional development to make sure that they can present themselves in front of employers and sell themselves in an interview. Go to as many professional development workshops and free programs from employers as you can - there are so many things that you can learn! Finally, I recommend that you have an open mind when looking for jobs. The one job or company that you had your heart set on may not be the best fit for you. Explore other opportunities that you may not have initially been attracted to. This will help you learn more about yourself, and help you choose the career that will make you the happiest.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
As soon as I started at Fox, I became more motivated and driven than I ever had been. I constantly set the bar higher for myself to stay competitive with my peers. Not only were the classes challenging and compelling, but I felt like I had truly found a place where I wanted to get more involved. The leadership opportunities offered at Fox are incredible; from the SPOs to the internships I completed to workshops I’ve attended, everything here molds you into a leader. The leadership experience I’ve attained because of Fox definitely helped make me a better student and professional.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD taught me not only how to become a professional, but how to set myself apart. I got my first internship with CSPD, and will be starting there full-time in August. CSPD not only provides, but encourages students to get more involved and to become student leaders. Everyone at CSPD is extremely supportive and are great resources.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Your job search starts well before senior year. The sooner you differentiate yourself, the more opportunities will be available to you. These opportunities turn into internships which then open up more opportunities to you. This keeps on happening, not only until your full-time job search, but in your career as well. Get involved, find leadership positions, and do it all early. Additionally, things like mock interviews not only help you become better prepared, but help you build a network which you can leverage when starting your job search.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I attended 3 colleges prior to my acceptance at Temple University. I have been a working adult for over 10 years and have management experience in the small business sector. Finding a school to return to after being on a “break” can be a daunting task. I was thoroughly impressed with the reputation of the Fox School. I can honestly say that returning to school at Temple is one of the best decisions I have made. One important aspect of the Fox School that I have taken away is the significance of professionalism. All of the professors (specifically within my major) have done a great job at not only being professional in the classroom but treating students as professionals.
In addition to the classroom environment the resources at Temple are plentiful. Assets such as networking events and the CSPD are here to aid in the advancement in to the professional industry.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The CSPD is helpful for many reasons. Whether inexperienced or experienced the CSPD can introduce you to the job search or help you keep your searching sharp. The CSPD was a tremendous help through the mock interviewing and the resume critiquing. Also, the staff took additional time to help me with any concerns I had regarding my job search as a full-time working student.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
INTERVIEW, INTERVIEW, INTERVIEW!!! For the graduates with no work experience, interviewing is the key to your placement. Sure, extra-curricular activities and a great GPA help but the interview is your chance to sell yourself to the company. The more interviews you partake in, the more you will know about yourself and what you need to relay to the hiring interviewer. Use the resources here at Temple. Use the CSPD. Talk to your professors. Network as much as possible. You can only benefit from utilizing all of the resources while you are in school. Get your resume critiqued not only by the CSPD but have some of your professors critique it as well. Also, sharpen your business writing skills by taking a business writing class. Having a strong set of communication skills will never be obsolete!

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox School of Business was a great resource for me when I began to look for a internships and job opportunities. By developing a strong relationship with Accounting Faculty members such as Professor Sheri Risler and Professor Christian Wurst, I was able to have a major competitive advantage in comparison to my peers because of the recommendations that I had received from them. Furthermore the Fox school aided me by providing me with the opportunity to join and participate in national student organizations. As an active member of the National Association of Black Accountants, I have held multiple officer positions during my tenure at Fox such as Vice President and Co-Secretary. Through these positions I have been able to greatly increase my network which has opened up many more job and internship opportunities for me.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
As a student, CSPD has helped me in a variety of ways. By having the luxury to enroll in the one credit business professional development course, I was able to learn how to do things such as write a resume and deliver a 30 second elevator pitch.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My advice to future students in the job search process is to be open to all opportunities. As a business student you have many opportunities that come your way. These opportunities range from company sponsored office tours all the way to etiquette luncheons and mock interviews. By taking advantage of these you not only get an opportunity to have face time with major corporate representatives but you also get a chance to improve your soft skills.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox School offer many opportunities that are not available at many other schools. The students at Temple are blessed to have this experienced and knowledgeable faculty backing them. I was able to meet many people and make a lot of professional connections through the various student organizations and also through professor's referrals. I tried to get as much exposure at Temple as I could and gain as much experience as possible. This made it possible to get a job right after graduation.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The CSPD helped prepared me for the real world through training sessions and mock interviews. I was able to speak with many recruiters from different industries and practice my interviewing skills. I also took advantage of the resume critiques which helped me to better present myself. This is a resource that should not go wasted.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Get as much experience as you can! Do not wait till your senior year to look for an internship or a part time job. Start looking your freshman year and work during your summer vacations. The more internships/experience you have the more appealing you'll be to any employer.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I am currently a credit analyst in Middle Market Lending for TD Bank based out of Philadelphia. My Fox experience was related to my job search in many ways. At Fox, I was able to learn think outside of the box and not be constricted to what I was accustomed to. Originally my job search was limited to real estate oriented careers; however, through various classes, events, and research I broadened my search to corporate banking and other fields. I studied Real Estate and Finance at Fox and the course work through my major classes and other classes have helped me significantly in more ways than I originally expected. In Middle Market Lending and corporate banking in general, we analyze various entities engaged in manufacturing, retail, government support and more looking at both public and private organizations. The coursework provided to me through Fox enabled me to analyze these companies in a 360 degree view from not only understanding their financial and accounting practices but their operational needs and risks. Being able to express this competency in interviews gave me a solid advantage over other candidates. More so, the all encompassing nature of a Fox education allowed me to seek out career opportunities in various fields and ultimately helped me gain my position in Middle Market.

At Fox I learned to adapt, think both independently and creatively, and drilldown into a situation. This ability allowed me to look at the large possibilities when searching for jobs, better prepare me for interviews, and helps me day in and day out analyze some of the world’s leading private and public companies.

How did CSPD help during your time as a student?

CSPD was extremely helpful to me as a student. The various career events, mock interviews, and internships/job postings on FoxNet were monumental in obtaining my current career. I found my current job as an internship posted on FoxNet. After I received various offers for the summer, the CSPD staff was very helpful in advising me on which internship to take. The lessons learned through CSPD courses like BA2101 and event gave me confidence and competency in the job searching process and work place. I would advise all students to reach out to the staff when searching for careers and deciding on one.

What is your advice for future student in the job search process?
The best advice I can give to student when searching for jobs is to always think outside of the box. I distinctly remember when I was a freshmen a teacher asked my class how many of us knew exactly what we wanted to do. A few students including myself raised are hands. He then followed by saying that there is no doubt in his mind this will change by graduation; he was 100% right, at least for me. I raised my hands with the intention of being a real estate developer. After taking finance courses, joining various clubs, attending different networking events I decided to look for opportunities in banking. I spent my last summer working in middle market lending (corporate banking) with TD Bank. Through this I found a career where I could express many of my interest by analyzing defense contractors one minute to real estate holding companies the next. Overall, by not limiting myself to real estate I found a career that encapsulated all of my interests.

In addition, I would recommend students searching for their first careers to gain as much work experience as possible while in school. Not only does this allow you to try different careers, each experience whether it’s working for a Fortune 500 company or a local fitness center offers experiences that will undoubtedly help in your career. During school I had two major internships (one working in urban economics and one for TD Bank), but also worked as a store clerk, lifeguard, an assistant at a car dealership, and as a real estate appraisal assistance. When most look at my college work experience they assume the two major internships gave me the greatest experience; however, the lessons I learned from the other jobs gave me insight that has helped me in obtain the major internship and ultimately my full time career. Being able to take a previous situation and apply it to a new task greatly accelerated my career. I would advice students to not downplay any experience in an interview, everything has a lesson and you gain viable experience that can give you advantages over other candidates. Applying these experiences lead to a part time position for me at the Bank while I was still in school and I was later offered the full time position without an additional interview. Work experience during school not only builds a better resume, it often leads to full time positions.

Lastly, networking cannot be emphasized enough. My philosophy when attending events as a student and now as a banker is, there is no harm in meeting one more person. The more you put your name out there and become part of the business world the better your chances of success are. Attending various events and fairs are a great way to meet people in the industry. In addition, networking within an internship with co-workers is one of the best ways to gain a job and be successful. During my summer internship I worked over sixty hours a week at times but always made time to attend an outing. By becoming part of the group on a social level enabled me to meet more and more people including some of the top executives of the Philadelphia market and bank as a whole. By the end of the internship various presidents and senor vice presidents of the Bank knew me by first name. This gave my managers confidence in me to speak with clients and have me attend events with them. By building my network I advanced as an analyst and obtained my full time job. I would suggest to all students who will or are searching for jobs to go to networking events and meet as many people as possible. Building a solid reputation is instrumental to landing your first career. As they say it is not only what you know but who you know; and as a caveat it is more so how you are known. Building strong rapport with people in your organization and industry gives you access to their network and opens far reaching doors of opportunity.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
My experience at the Fox School was so helpful in my job search. The different skills I learned in classes were great in terms of helping to differentiate myself from other applicants, as well as the helpful hints about employers and what is expected as an applicant. There were so many tid-bits that I picked up while in school that led me to my career, that I didn’t even realize how much of a help they would be at the time.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The CSPD was so supportive during my search and thoroughly answered all of my questions I had. There were a few times I felt overwhelmed, or I questioned what direction I wanted to head, and I was always greeted with positivism and outstanding enthusiasm for my future.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Meet and build relationships with everyone you can. Always try to differentiate yourself from the competition, whether by a skill or on a personal basis. You never know where your interviewed has been/lived/met and how that can influence the hiring process, and always be proud to be a Temple Owl.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I had a very positive experience with both internship and fulltime job searches throughout my four years at Fox. I had options between the Risk Management Internship Reception, professors, and the CSPD Career Reception. The receptions themselves have a diverse number of companies available and the interview support from Fox staff is invaluable. Fox Professors also seek out students who they think will excel in certain internship positions. I used these resources to complete two different internships related to my major and find a fulltime job.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
One of the first things I did at Fox was get CSPD’d. Having freshman go through the professional development classes early on sets a standard for professional behavior and encourages a more mature attitude towards the Fox education and job process.
The CSPD Senior Reception was a huge help to me during my fulltime job search. Being a Risk Management major, we are encouraged to attend the career receptions for our own major, but I found a wider variety of employers interested in me at the CSPD Senior Reception. Whatever major you are, attending the CSPD Senior Reception gives you more options and different opportunities.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My advice would be to step outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself. Whether that is becoming an officer in an SPO, taking honors classes, or joining a volunteer organization outside the Fox School. Temple University has so much to offer and taking advantage of those opportunities is the best way you find yourself in college.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox School of Business experience impacted my job search in many ways from classes to Student Professional Organizations to workshops. The group projects and case studies in class, the leadership roles and networking events with employers provided by the SPOs, and workshops such as CSPD’s Resume Critique and Employers Resume Critique are fundamental in my job search because it provided the experience I need to understand the job search process and what employers look for in a candidate.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD helped me get my first internship which led to my second internship in NYC and to my full-time offer! I took advantage of the different workshops CSPD offered as well as the Employer’s Resume Critique because I was able to network with employers from various companies.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Take advantage of all the extracurricular activities on campus and definitely get involved. Employers love to see that you have been active not in just your classes but in your school. Also, in doing so you will learn a lot of skills that recruiters and employers look for in a candidate and that are vital in the work place such as leadership skills, teamwork, communications skills and so much more. In addition, having experience is essential! Definitely get some type of experience even if it’s a part time job, volunteering, or co-op. Any experience is essential for not only your resume but your future job/career.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The most valuable experiences I've received from the Fox School are not only from classes but also from Student Professional Organizations such as The William C. Dunkelberg Owl Fund (Temple University Investment Association) and the Financial Management Association. Being in executive positions for those organizations has provided me with hands-on experiences in financial markets and improvement of leadership skills which made me an outstanding student from other candidates to attend the internship as a Summer Analyst for the Bank of America Merrill Lynch this summer. Even though I didn't receive an offer from ML due to the recession, the experiences helped me receive several offers from other companies. If I did not join the organizations, I wouldn't have any offers yet and am proud to be a part of Fox School.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
Getting CSPD'd was extremely helpful to prepare for interviews and learn what to expect from interviews. Unfortunately, I was not able to secure employment through the job fairs, internship opportunities, or job positions on FoxNet due to being an international student and being neither an U.S. citizen nor a permanent resident.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
BE AGGRESSIVE!!!! It's never too early to start the job search. You can even start internships from your freshman year. What really matters is how much you are willing to learn and earn through millions of opportunities out there. You have to differentiate yourself from all other candidates, and receiving a high GPA is very important but companies would rather have candidates who are logical and have the possibility to develop with several internship experiences than students with 4.0 GPA. I strongly encourage all future students to join student organizations and start internships as soon as possible.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I found that the Fox School is extremely well respected by many of the largest companies in the world. A recruiter from Johnson & Johnson once told me he enjoys recruiting Temple students because of their hard work ethics and diverse backgrounds. Also, the opportunities to get involved in activities outside of my business discipline allowed me add varied experiences to my resume which were always noticed by interviewers.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
I was studying abroad in Tokyo when I was searching for my first internship. At first, I figured this would make it nearly impossible for me to get an internship for when I returned. However, I still applied for positions listed on FoxNet and the CSPD was great in arranging phone interviews. Though inconvenient to have to stay up until 2am, because of the time difference, my lack of sleep paid off when I landed a co-op at Johnson & Johnson. The CSPD also facilitated my being recruited to JPMorganChase the following summer, which turned into a full-time job offer. Janis Campbell was a great resource for resume critiques and discussing which opportunities best matched my skills and personality.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
START EARLY!!! Most students seem to wait until their junior year to look for internships; however, I found having had a professional experience in my sophomore year gave me a leg-up for other internships and full-time jobs. Even if you don’t land an internship your sophomore year, the interviewing experience is invaluable. Also, network, network, network!!! Discuss your career goals with professors, advisors, family members, friends, etc...you never know who might be able to help you in your job search.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I made the decision to transfer to Temple University’s Fox School of Business in the spring of 2009, and I can honestly say that that decision has been the best decision of my life next to deciding to go back to school as a working adult student in 2007.  Not only did it eventually lead to my full time 2010 internship in audit with Deloitte, but also, it started the domino effect that lead to my post-graduation job offer.  Transferring from Delaware County Community College’s branch campuses in Downingtown and Exton, and living in a rural part of Chester County, deciding to attend a school the size of Temple University in a dynamic city such as Philadelphia was definitely a huge turning point in my life.  It was a decision that I knew going in would first serve to place me outside of my comfort zone, and secondly, enrich my life and provide me with opportunities I had never had available to me in the past.  Lucky for me, a fellow accounting student reached out to me early in my first semester, explaining the activities and events in which I needed to get involved to be successful in my future job search.  I also took advantage of CSPD’s Doubleheader Workshop, in which students learn the basics on making that first impression at an interview and valuable resume writing skills.  In addition, I joined Fox’s Business Honors Student Association and Temple University’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi in the fall of 2009.  I found such organizations to be a valuable part of my education, as they put students face-to-face with professionals of many prominent businesses and corporations and provide students with priceless information about a company’s culture, service lines, leadership building workshops, job offerings, and internship possibilities.  The education one can receive at Temple University outside of the classroom through participation in such organizations as I joined and the networking opportunities they may lead to are immeasurable.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The CSPD office is a wealth of information!  As I previously mentioned, I learned vital skills on making that great first impression and fine-tuning my resume at the Doubleheader Workshop I attended taught by Janis Moore Campbell.  Ms. Campbell is awesome!  She keeps you laughing through the whole workshop, while engraining the valuable skills she is trying to teach you forever in your mind.  In addition, I picked up several brochures from the CSPD office offering valuable information regarding interview etiquette, traditional interview questions frequently asked by employers, behavioral interview questions, the importance of networking, impression management, etc., etc.  I also utilized CSPD’s FoxNet online job database in my internship search.  In the fall of 2009, I applied and interviewed with five different accounting firms, accepting and securing the 2010 Deloitte Winter Audit internship.  Thanks to the literature available in the CSPD office, networking events such as the Fox Accounting Internship Reception, and the countless informational meetings of organizations such as Beta Alpha Psi and BHSA, I felt I possessed the tools I needed to face my interviewers with confidence and preparation and, eventually, excel at my internship and land my post-graduate DREAM job!

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Get involved, get involved, GET INVOLVED!  It sounds clichéd, but there is no other way around it.  There is so much information out there and so many resources available to Fox students.  As an older student who has already worked in a professional business setting, I was very impressed by the resources available to prepare students for the job search, networking, and interviewing.  Nevertheless, while there is a wealth of information at every student’s fingertips, one has to be proactive in utilizing those resources and figuring out whom you need to know and whom you should be contacting.  Employers are looking for those candidates who go above and beyond reaching out to their recruiters to make themselves known.  You need to prove yourself not only as a successful student, academically, but as a well-rounded individual through the activities and organizations in which you are involved.  Fine-tuning the soft skills, such as communication, organizational skills, and leadership, are vital to your success in the job search and interviewing processes.  You need to differentiate yourself through your activities and organizations.  As a student, you will not only have fun doing these things, but you will also develop yourself into that well-rounded person interviewers are looking for to satisfy the needs of today’s dynamic job market.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
Along with many others, I transferred to the fox school of Business as Junior from a two year college. During my transition, the fox school has helped me research and find a career that best fits me individually with the help of faculty advisors and research sites such as Vault and Hoovers.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
As a student CSPD has helped me develop my resume and interviewing skills through resume workshops and mock interviews. Additionally, CSPD has encouraged me to be an active member of the National Association of Black Accountants where I’ve learned and developed the soft skills needed to network and gain further comfort about how to properly conduct myself in a professional environment. Through my involvement in NABA I was able to secure an internship and a full time offer with KPMG as a federal tax associate. Starting November 2011 I will continue with my career at KPMG as a fulltime Tax Associate thanks to the faculty members at CSPD and NABA!

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My Advice to students in the job search process is to research the industry you are interested in, have questions ready to ask employers and be proactive. Take full advantage of networking events, career workshops and etiquette luncheons. These free events offered by the Fox school will help you develop the soft skills needed to interact professionally with perspective employers.  I would also encourage students to join a student professional organization such as NABA or Beta Alpha Psi. These organizations help build confidence and teach the dos and don’ts during an interview process. Life is full of opportunities and certain opportunities only come around once so take full advantage of them before it’s too late. With this attitude each and every student will be successful in the job search process.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
As a student who transferred from a small private college, my Fox School experience was dynamic but ultimately pleasant. I was offered numerous job leads and opportunities to network with business professionals. I applied and interviewed with over 10 companies, and accepted a junior internship with The TJX Companies in Boston, MA. Through this three month internship I gained knowledge of the retail world, and was exposed to nearly every facet of the multi-dimensional business. The opportunity gave me a chance to use educational theory, new knowledge, business analysis, and creativity to run my own $10 million business in less than 13 weeks. After completion of the internship and interviews with many other companies I accepted the offer from TJX in October of my Senior year. The things that I have learned through the Fox School are extremely relevant and applicable transferable skills for the work place. The Fox School is very different than other Universities in the aspect that I believe they truly prepare you for the work force, and give you all of the necessary skills to succeed in life.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD was extremely helpful in my internship and job search, and I secured my internship through Fox Net in the summer of 2010. Through assistance with on campus interviews and Spring Connection I was offered the opportunity to travel to Boston to interview during the final round for the position. Jena Bandini was available for my countless questions on traveling to interviews, negotiating offers, and arranging alternate ways of interviewing with companies as I was studying abroad. I was even given the opportunity to spend the day with the CSPD representatives at an in house visit day at my corporate office in Boston, MA to further the relationship of the Fox School and The TJX Companies and develop a complete knowledge of the PACE (Planning and Allocation School of Excellence) graduate program at TJX. CSPD was a helpful resource for me from start to finish, resume development to job acceptance.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Get involved in organizations at Fox as early as possible. It was because of CSPD and American Marketing Association that I was able to acquire the internship which lead to my job. The face to face exposure to business professionals that AMA offered is priceless, and gave me a competitive advantage over anyone who was applying without that experience. Living in such a digitally based world, applying to jobs online can only do you so much good. Through CSPD and AMA programs I was able to brand myself, and get direct contact to recruiters and professionals in nearly every industry. Getting a job is not only about your resume and grades, it is about your passion and ability to sell your brand.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
As a member of the the Fox School's Business Honors Program, I received an email about an internship/scholarship program at AIG. Not only did I receive a full-tuition scholarship from AIG, but also an internship in their investments arm in NYC. While there during summer 2009, I went to a BlackRock event uninvited and unregistered, and luckily they let me in. I networked for months within the firm and built rapport with HR, and ended up getting a super day interview the day before I left for my study abroad spring 2010 to Madrid, Spain. They contacted me while in Madrid, saying I got the internship, and I accepted; interned there during the summer in NYC, and ended up signing a full time offer with my respective group. If the Fox School's Honors Program didn't send me that email, and the subsequent chain of events didn't occur, I may not have been at BlackRock in NYC.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
Janice Campbell was very helpful in my internship search fall 2009. Speaking with her really help put into perspective my understanding of how to go about interviewing with firms and maintaining my network of contacts.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
What many students don't realize is that business is more than just good grades. Even though I have good grades, I wouldn't have been afforded half the opportunities I received in college if it wasn't for the people I knew; it's imperative to create your own opportunities and shape your future as you see fit. Go beyond your comfort zone and seek out those unique opportunities that only a few know about. If you want to work on Wall St., you won't get it by just getting good grades. You need to get good grades, become an executive in an SPO, cold call people at various firms, and attend events at other schools, getting your name out there. Those that are persistent in attaining their true goals always come out on top.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I had a great experience in the Fox School. I would always ask my professors their thoughts on any job prospects or career plans. Go see them in their office hours. Most of them are happy to help.
More importantly, I used SPO's, contests and events to make connections. I was given a mentor as part of the Be Your Own Boss Bowl competition and that person introduced me to a lot of people I would otherwise never met. Those people helped me land the job.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
I was in CSPD frequently enough to be on a first-name basis with just about everyone in there. I got to know Janis Campbell especially well. She has a no-nonsense approach that really got my head on straight. CSPD gave me the one thing I sorely lacked: focus. I worked out an action plan with help from CSPD that went something like this: Research an industry thoroughly, then set up informational interviews (extremely important!) and then network my way into an employment interview.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Read, read, read and read some more. Being current and knowledgeable about the industry you are interested in will do a number of things for you. First of all, it will help you decide if that industry is the right place for you. Secondly, it will really impress the people you need to impress. Remember, you need to make them want you. Thirdly, it will help you to determine the skills that you need to work on to be successful in that field. But the most important thing it will give you is confidence. Confidence is extremely important to your success. It's hard to be confident when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Sign up for newsletters and industry journals and read blogs. Read BusinessWeek, the Economist, Forbes, Wall Street Journal and Philadelphia Business Journal or any other publication to get a general overview of what's happening in the business world. I personally use Facebook to "like" most of these things and get stories to pop up in my feed.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
CSPD provided me with the professional skills set and necessary tools in order to look for internships.  Networking with Fox faculty and staff, particularly Dr. Andrea Lopez and Dr. Karen Cherwony, allowed me to locate my “dream internship” at Temple University’s HR department.  Through this and my other two internships, as well as being involved in Temple Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), I was able to build solid work experience.  Packaging my internships, TU SHRM and the education I received at the Fox School together, I was able to apply for jobs with the confidence that I was ready to take on a competitive HR position at any organization.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
I started attending CSPD workshops fall semester of my freshman year.  As soon as I was acquainted with what I needed to do in order to stay up-to-date with CSPD I sought out opportunities for internships and, when the time came, full-time positions.  CSPD was always there to answer questions, offer advice, do a last-minute resume critique, make sure applications were submitted, and be a listening ear when things got frustrating.  CSPD really was my official “guidance counselor” for professional growth and development.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Get involved early and often.  Make searching for a job a hobby rather than an obsession.  If you apply what you’ve learned from CSPD and are able to translate your experiences into something you can talk about during an interview you should be in good shape!

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
Extracurricular activities helped to prepare me for my job search. With visits by professionals to SPO's I learned of opportunities in accounting. Also, having professors share their experiences in business gave me added insight into the accounting and business world.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
I was put in the position to succeed with the resources CSPD provided. From hosting résumé critiques to mock interviews, CSPD gave me confidence as I began my job search and interviews.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Get involved with the SPO of your major! This allows you the opportunity to meet recruiters and professionals before you interview with the company.  You will be at an advantage once you begin looking for jobs and interviewing.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
My experience at the Fox School was exceptional and rewarding. Had I not gone through this experience, I would have never gotten my position at Lincoln. My experience at Fox forced me to be studious and proficient not only in my academic studies but also with current world events. Making connections to theory and the real world proved to be critical as it helped me be successful in internships, networking events, and interviews.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
My experience with CSPD was an important factor in landing my position at Lincoln. Take advantage of all the resources offered to you through CSPD especially the resume critiques and mock interviews. Participating in the mock interviews helped me get used to the questions I could potentially get in interviews and the feedback I got was excellent. They are there to help you and you are paying for it so use it!

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
I would recommend being yourself and having some set of goals. Take advantage of student professional organizations and get some real world experience through internships. Getting a high GPA does not guarantee you a job! I would have not gotten my position had I not had real world experience to back up a good academic record. Dress the part and network! Keep a rapport with your bosses and contacts. Make sure your resume is a 100% and doesn't have silly errors on it. Utilize Foxnet AND other sources. Last, but most important, learn how to communicate and present. You don't have to be the most outgoing person because I'm certainly not. I'm a laid back person but I know when its time to sell myself and speak up. Besides, we're business majors. We don't have a choice in doing presentations and having great communication skills!

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
As a transfer from another university into the Fox School of Business, I was impressed that everyone - from professors, to faculty advisers, to alumni and other business professionals - advises you to seek internships and professional development early on. I was also impressed by how important "real world" local and global issues are to both Temple students and staff throughout my undergraduate career. I don't think this is the case at every university. In addition, joining a number of Student Professional Organizations (SPO's) including the IBA, AMA, and BHSA provided many benefits not limited to the job search. All of these factors ultimately made me a more attractive candidate to potential employers.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The CSPD is directly responsible for two of my internships as an undergrad through FoxNet, and indirectly for my success in landing a post-graduate position, which came from one of these internships. CSPD has also been helpful in providing professional development opportunities and advice from the very beginning.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
I could write a book...but here's a paragraph! Internships, whether paid or unpaid, are the best opportunities to explore career opportunities, connect with interesting and successful peers and mentors, build an impressive résumé, and get a more enriching experience from your undergraduate education. In order to find these opportunities, you have to be proactive (and even if you are, there will still be disappointments but you can learn from these too). Have as many different experiences as you can to determine what interests you and what sets you apart from others. Be willing to make some sacrifices. Create your own luck with hard work and preparation. Finally, reward yourself for everything you have accomplished so far, and smile often because you want to, not because you have to :-)

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD allowed the opportunity to not only perfect my resume and interviewing skills, but also encouraged me to join and be an active member in the Temple University Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). Through my involvement in NABA, I was able to meet and network with chapter alumni, who were able to pass my resume along and help me to secure an internship with KPMG, following my sophomore year. This summer will mark my third internship with KPMG in their Washington DC office, in the Federal Audit practice. As an aspiring CPA, specifically in the Washington DC area, I am required to complete 150 credit hours. To meet that requirement I will be entering American University in the Fall to pursue a Masters in Accounting.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My advice for students in the job search process is to actively use CSPD as a resource for not only job postings, but also for their expertise in the job search and interviewing process. It is important to understand what to do and what not to do while pursuing a job opportunity. I would also encourage students to have an idea of what they are interested in doing and what companies will allow them to do that, know the requirements for that position, and ensure that they meet those requirements. This helps to build confidence and ensure that this would be the best position for that individual.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox School of Business was a great resource to me as I began searching for internships and full-time job offers early in my academic career. The various resources such as research sites, the Vault and Hoovers combined with faculty ready and willing to provide me with relevant advice was vital in my ability to find the opportunity that was best for me.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
As a student CSPD helped me in a variety of ways. Simply learning how to research a company was one great learning experience CSPD gave me. Additionally, providing me with interview tips and networking skills allowed me to gain further comfort about how to properly conduct myself in a professional environment. I am sure that without these simple tools my ability to gain an internship/full-time job offer would have been dramatically more challenging.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My advice for future students in the job search process to to take full advantage of all the opportunities offered to you. Don't miss out on opportunities to better your professional skills such as: networking events, interviewing workshops, etiquette luncheons and simply speaking with faculty about how to identify professional organizations that fit you best and how you can get them to see you are a fit for them. One motto I have developed in order to not miss out on any opportunities presented to me is, " You can not win the lotto if you do not play!

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
Like many others, I transferred to the Fox Business school in my junior year. The transition from the previous school to Fox Business School was overwhelming at first. Now that Alter Hall has opened, Fox has many things to offer, like the Bloomberg computer terminals in the Capital Markets Room and highly intelligent professors who push their students to their full potential; such as Dr. Bruce Rader.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD offered as much resource as possible to students. They have taught me how the hiring process works and what I should and should not do during an interview. Another note about interviews, CSPD provides mock interviews to students with actual recruiters, giving useful feedbacks and a video of the interview session.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My advice to future students is to take advantage of everything Fox has to offer! Future students should join Student Professional Organizations (SPO), talk to professor about anything and everything, and network with as many students as possible. Being about to talk to others will greatly help you during interviews.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox School experience provided me with many valuable resources to prepare me with my job/internship search. One example is the Business Communications class, which was beneficial in improving my professionalism, writing skills and presentation skills. Another example is working in many group projects throughout my undergraduate studies, which allowed me to develop and improve on my teamwork skills. In addition, obtaining multiple leadership positions within a student professional organization enabled me to provide specific examples when answering challenging interview questions.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The CSPD proved to be most helpful, and I was sure to utilize it to the fullest extent. From hosting the Spring Connection and Fall Senior Reception, to providing professional development courses to build your resume and assist you with finding a job, to the implementation of FoxNet, I found myself ahead of the game in the job/internship search compared to my peers from other colleges and universities. Also, providing on-campus interview rooms made the interviewing process much more convenient. I can recall having two and three interviews on the same day!

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My job search has definitely been an experience. After a very long job search, I received an offer the day before graduation, had it taken away a few weeks before my start date, and then was quickly helped by that same company in finding me a new one. My advice: if you are having a stressful job/internship search, don’t lose hope! Your opportunity is out there waiting for you. Do your research before attending a job fair and bring plenty of copies of your resume, because you never know when an employer will reach out to you for a position. Also, make sure you take full advantage of the CSPD and all of its beneficial resources! The staff is always willing to help you. Finally, make sure you get involved! Joining and getting involved in an SPO will open many doors to networking opportunities.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
CSPD led to starting my job search but the pieces fell into place as I took more courses and networked.  Professor Kate Nelson created and instructed a course called “HR on the Ground” giving students a chance to act as consultants.  The course focused around building a relationship with Target Stores to develop an action plan regarding employee engagement.  After meeting several recruiters and representatives in the class I scheduled an interview on the FoxNet website.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
The services offered by CSPD were both professional and developmental.  As a freshman I attended the workshops but didn’t feel a strong connection.  I didn’t see how their information would help me.  While some of it seemed like common sense, there was more to a resume, a hand shake, and my name than I ever imagined.  CSPD assists students in making connections with employers and instructs us on our professional etiquette.  The mock interview sessions allowed me to rehearse with real employers from other companies and the Google calendar of events kept me updated every step of the way.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Be patient!  The dream job may not appear overnight but you will find one.  I would encourage students to reach out to their professors and friends.  Ask them who they know.  Everyone is connected and that may lead to an opportunity you never considered.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
At first, as a new transfer student my junior year, the Fox School experience seemed overwhelming and daunting. But now, as a recent graduate (with a job), I realize that the Fox School was the best and most rewarding opportunity for post college life. I recommend taking full advantage of all the opportunities that the Fox School has to offer!

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD is the perfect alignment for the student to the real world transition. I took full advantage of the workshop and events hosted by the CSPD. The workshops and events lead me down the right path on business etiquette, resume development, interviewing and more!

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
My advice is to take full advantage of every opportunity the CSPD and the Fox School has to offer. Check up on the CSPD web site for updates and job opportunities. FoxNet is another great resource. While applying for internships and jobs, apply to all which seem relevant. Doing so, opened the door to multiple interviews for me. Don't ever feel discouraged on applying for a job that may be "out of your league."

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
My Fox School experience was great. It started with the exceptional staff that encouraged me to become active in Fox SPO’s. Through my involvement in Beta Alpha Psi and the accounting tutoring center I was able to network and develop relationships with many firms in the financial services industry, eventually leading to my current position.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
I came to CSPD as a graduating senior in my final semester that had no internship experience and had not interviewed for any full-time positions (I’m not a slacker - I had aspirations of attending law school…). Through a crash course in professional development I was able to apply to a number of spring internships. This opened the door for many full-time positions after the spring, and I eventually ended up accepting a full-time offer from RSM McGladrey. I truly owe my current job to the friendly and devoted staff of CSPD who helped me through my career search.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Start looking early. Many firms are now recruiting as early as the freshman level. It may seem very overwhelming at first, especially if you are not sure what career you want to embark on, but take advantage of any part-time job or internship that is available. Also, take advantage of the communication and public speaking classes offered in the Fox School.  While having an outstanding resume is important in the job search process, effective communication is essential to passing an interview with flying colors.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I had an excellent experience related to my job search!  In my sophomore year I applied for a Leadership Conference with Deloitte and was accepted after an intense interview.  During my junior year I applied for an internship with Deloitte’s Tax Department and again was accepted.  After working for a ten week period over the summer I was offered a full time position in their Philadelphia office.  I feel very fortunate to have obtained a solid job offer and feel the Fox School of Business gave me a definite advantage.  The Fox School does an excellent job in preparing students to enter into the working world!

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD helped a great deal with my resume writing and my interview skills.  I participated in the CSPD workshops early and was able to gain valuable knowledge that will carry through my career.  They also provided great networking opportunities, such as the Senior Reception and Spring Connection, where I met many recruiters that I still keep in touch with.  These professional events along with the learning workshops will help make my transition from college to work must easier.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
The most important advice I can offer to future students is to join a Student Professional Organization within the Fox School and stay very involved in their functions.  These organizations help their members create a network of professionals, alumni, and fellow students that will help build their future careers.  Also, it’s extremely important to stay focused on course material and grades and work to obtain the highest GPA possible.  In addition, seek out opportunities to apply for programs and internships offered by firms, both small and large.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
The Fox school was instrumental in my job search.  Through the Fox School, I was able to participate in the accounting Student Professional Organization, Accounting Professional Society.  Here, I was exposed to recruiters almost every week, and learned almost everything I currently know about the accounting profession.  The SPO was a great way to get my background research about firms I was interested in.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD filled in the gaps that the SPO left:  professionalism, interview skills, business dress, etc.  The most important message I got from CSPD was that though a resume was important and got me an interview, ultimately I was selling myself to a firm.  Knowing how to present myself was extremely important in the job search process.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Building on this last point, my advice to students entering the job search phase is to really get to know yourself and the topics that you feel confident talking about.  Building up a resume is very important, because I believe that besides looking good on paper, these extracurricular activities will really help you learn a lot about yourself and your capabilities.  Communication skills are key in an interview:  try not to say “uhm” or “like” during an interview.  Relax and be confident!

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I loved my Fox School experience and the advice I received from my professors and classmates was invaluable in preparing me for my job/internship search. My involvement in Fox student professional organizations especially gave me an edge, allowing me to attend exclusive events with employers. The Fox School is a great place for recruiters to visit, making the job search a bit easier.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
CSPD was essential to my professional development! One of the most important steps that led to my job offer was attending CSPD's Spring Connection, an annual recruiting and networking event for Fox students and prospective employers. I learned a lot about different internship programs, especially JPMorgan's, and walked away with great contacts.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Find out as much as you can about positions you are interviewing for and really tailor your interview responses to that. Many people just treat an interview as Q&A, but you will be at a great advantage if your responses convey qualities about yourself that match the job skills. Also, many internships will result in a job offer with a short deadline to accept. While you are interning, take advantage of the opportunity to "interview" the company to see if it's a good fit for you so that you can make a solid decision when the offer comes.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
My Fox School experience was very positive.  I forged great relationship with the professors, all of who were more than willing to go out of their way to see me succeed, whether it be writing a letter of recommendation, making a phone call to a company on my behalf, or tutoring me on certain topics I did not understand.  Because of my positive Fox experience, I felt more confident and prepared to go to interviews, and more confident to seek employment for positions that were really competitive.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
It is thanks to the CSPD office that I have a job.  Their workshops, staff, accommodations, and support is one of Fox's strongest attributes.  I went on over a dozen interviews at the CSPD office, applied to over a dozen positions on the CSPD web site, and were prepared for those interviews thanks to their workshops and resources available on their web site.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Take advantage of CSPD.  They are there to help, and if you actively seek advice and ways to improve your interview skills, resume, etc., you will be a step ahead of everyone else interviewing.  Network, network, network.  Everyone that you encounter at Fox is a resource to you.  The professors, professional staff, your peers, etc., should all be in your professional network.

What was your Fox School experience related to your job search?
I had a great experience when it came to the Fox School and my over-all job search. From internships to my first full-time position, I always felt that I had someone to talk to whether it be a professor, someone from the CSPD, or a peer. There was never a lack of support, which made the always extensive job search much more enjoyable and intriguing.

How did the CSPD help during your time as a student?
Throughout my 4 years at Temple, I spent many hours in the CSPD office. Whether it was for advice, a quick question, or an interview, I always found the staff to be very informative and supportive. It's really important for students to utilize this service within the Fox School because there is so much to learn and understand when looking for any type of position. FoxNet was probably one of my favorite assets of CSPD because there was always updated information on job listings and career expos. I always enjoyed visiting the CSPD office which held an extremely welcoming atmosphere...even if it was filled with nervous students, intimidating recruiters, and the constant resume question-askers.

What is your advice for future students in the job search process?
Never turn down the opportunity to network. Get yourself in front of as many recruiters and professions as possible. It is very important to put yourself out there and to get yourself recognized. Network, network, network! Also, try to gain as much experience as possible before your senior year. Recruiters are always looking for students who have held internship positions. This shows that you can balance your time and that you have exposure to the "real" world. Always a plus! Lastly, attend all of the job fairs that Fox and the University offer. Take advantage of these opportunities....even if you're a freshman. Know about the companies you're interested in, introduce yourself, and take it from there!
