The MAcc is for the student who wishes to find a career in public accounting and seeks the CPA designation.  The curriculum builds upon the foundation of financial undergraduate work, focusing more on advanced level topics. Unless your degree is from an English language university in a country where English is the native language, you will need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).  TOEFL scores must have been taken within the last two years.  Minimum scores are as follows:

  • 650(paper)
  • 250 (computer)
  • 100 (iBT)

Applicants may substitute the IELTS for the TOEFL with a comparable minimum score of 7.5 or better.

English is not my first language. Do you have any suggestions to improve my speaking and writing skills?

Temple has an Intensive English Language Program (IELP) available through the University. International students from all over the world can benefit from enrolling in the program.  More information can be found at the following link: http://www.temple.edu/provost/international/ielp/.

If you are unable to come to the United States prior to the start of the MAcc program to begin IELP studies, we also recommend purchasing the Rosetta Stone software package found here: http://www.rosettastone.com/pricenla?pc=sefreeship&cid=se-gg-5pay&gclid=CKCV-rSxgakCFUpx5QodizeyFg . This will allow you to work on your English speaking and writing skills before you commence the MAcc program. Another way to improve your reading and English speaking skills is to read English novels and newspapers and watch movies where the English language is spoken.  We also recommend reading the Wall Street Journal to build your business vocabulary.

There is always an advantage to submitting your application early. Applying early allows you to be considered among the first applicants for candidacy at the Fox School of Business.

If you recently graduated or are about to graduate from Temple University, there is no need to provide an official transcript. Our Graduate admissions office can obtain your transcript from the Temple University database.

Who shall I request to write letters of recommendation?

Preferred recommendation letters should be written by faculty who can assess your academic performance and professional references (employers) who know the candidate well and who can attest to the candidate’s leadership ability.

What is the process for references?

The Fox School has a Recommendation Form for references to fill out. References may submit their own recommendation rather than use our form. After downloading the form you will complete the information on the form and send it with a reference envelope to the individual who will be providing your reference. Write your name and address on the envelope when it has been returned to you, and mail the SEALED envelope with the rest of your application materials. DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE WHEN IT HAS BEEN RETURNED TO YOU. Once received, this reference will be the property of Temple University, and will not be returned. Admission materials can be sent to:

Is an interview required as part of the application process?

A personal interview may be requested to make a decision on your application. If you are not asked to participate in a personal interview do not view this as a negative indication towards your application.

What are the topics for the essays?

The required essay on your professional plans and goals should answer the following four (4) questions:

  • What past experiences prepared or motivated you to pursue a MAcc degree?
  • How would you expect to change over the course of the program?
  • What personal and professional values and skills do you hope to acquire beyond the academic content?
  • How will obtaining the MAcc help you achieve your career goals?

Is work experience required to be admitted to the MAcc program?

The MAcc program does not require that you have prior work experience.  We do require a professional resume listing your prior work experience/internships.

How long will it take for me to receive a decision regarding my MAcc application?

Once your application is complete – i.e. all requested materials have been received (including the GPA evaluation of international credentials); it will be forwarded to the MAcc admissions committee for review. Please allow up to four to six weeks for a decision to be made. Once a decision has been reached, it will be posted online for you to view immediately.  A letter will also be sent to your mailing address.

If I am an International Student what should I expect?

Application deadlines for international applicants are the same as for full time applicants. As part of our admissions process, the Graduate Admissions office of the Fox School of Business and Management will submit your academic credentials to our Graduate School for GPA evaluation only if your application form, official transcripts/yearly mark sheets, and official TOEFL scores, if necessary, are postmarked to this office by the deadlines. Please note that a credential evaluation done internally can take approximately one month.  If you will be using the credential evaluation service offered by Temple University, please allow for additional processing time.
