The Department of Statistics, which is located in the University’s Fox School of Business and Management, has 15 full-time graduate faculty members and about forty graduate students in its Master’s and Ph.D. programs.

Dr. Berger is elected to the USA National Academy of Sciences and as foreign member of the Spanish
Real Academia De Ciencias. He is Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science,
Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, Fellow of American Statistical Association, and
Elected member of the International Statistical Institute. Dr. Berger is the recipient of COPSS award
of 1985.

Dr. Berger has served as Director of the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute, the
President of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, President of the International Society for Bayesian
Analysis, Chair of the Advisory Committee for the NSF Directorate on Mathematical and Physical
Sciences, Co-Editor of Annals of Statistics, Founding Co-Editor of Journal on Uncertainty Quantification,
and Associate Editor for many other journals.

Dr. Berger’s research is primarily been in Bayesian statistics, foundations of statistics, statistical decision
theory, simulation, model selection, and various interdisciplinary areas of science and industry,
including astronomy, geophysics, medicine, and validation of complex computer models. He has
supervised 36 PhD dissertations, published over 190 papers and has written or edited 16 books or
special volumes.
